Brazen Beau Service Gifted to SCI Research

Media Release - Monday April 3

Australasian breeders can capitalise, as a unique gesture by Godolphin lifts the multiple Group winner and champion sprinter Brazen Beau to star status in the international quest to cure Spinal Cord Injury.

In an astonishingly generous offer, Sheik Mohammed's Godolphin Australia has gifted a Brazen Beau service, valued at a massive $AUD44,000, to SCI research funder the CATWALK Trust. All proceeds from the sale of the service at the Trust's star-studded Remarkable event in Queenstown next month will support CATWALK research projects.

Brazen BeauGodolphin's Managing Director Henry Plumptre says the opportunity to contribute to the drive for a breakthrough was a perfect fit for Brazen Beau.

"Godolphin exists through Sheikh Mohammed's passion for horses and competition. His leadership in many aspects of the equine industry gives us the relevance that we enjoy today," says Henry Plumptre.

"In supporting CATWALK , Godolphin is actively assisting research into spinal cord injury where the benefits will directly flow to injured riders in all aspects of equine competition.

"Godolphin remains a committed sponsor of the program and we send our best wishes for a successful evening at Remarkable!"

CATWALK founder Catriona Williams says Godolphin's donation is incredibly special.

"This is an amazingly generous gift and it demonstrates the very best cooperation. New Zealanders, Australians, and the international team behind Godolphin are all standing together as we drive the quest forward.

"Every single day someone in Australasia is affected by a life changing SCI - a tetraplegic in Australia represents a lifetime cost of $9.4 million dollars, and for paraplegics its $5 million dollars.

"This is one race we can't afford to lose, and we can't thank Sheikh Mohammed and Godolphin enough."

By I Am Invincible from the Snaadee mare Sansadee, Brazen Beau was a standout racehorse of his generation, scoring an outstanding win in the G1 Newmarket as a three year old. He emulated the likes of Exceed and Excel, and downed the world's highest rated older sprinters, including the champions Chautauqua and Lankan Rupee.

Having covered over 260 mares in his first two seasons at stud, Brazen Beau's book already reads like a "who's who," with three-time Melbourne Cup heroine Makybe Diva as well as G1 winners Regal Cheer, Rinky Dink, Midnight Oil and Maybe Discreet among his matings. The dams of G1 winners Astern, Earthquake, Mongolian Khan, Peggy Jean, Hucklebuck, Bon Aurum and Griante have also been matched with this outstanding individual.

Blessed with outstanding conformation as well as talent, Brazen Beau represents both outstanding quality and value, being the leading first-season sire at the broodmare sales last year with in foal mares selling for up to $AUD570,000

The Remarkable event on April 29 will be the standout event for CATWALK in 2017 as it continues to support cutting edge Spinal Cord Injury Research.

The Trust's National Patrons Richie McCaw, Toni Street and Aaron Slight will be there, with top broadcaster Street also acting as co-MC.

Notes:
