Segenhoe Easter Stars to Shine – Part One

Last year Segenhoe Stud had the honour of providing the top seller at the 2016 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

2016 sale-topper sold by SegenhoeThe half-brother by Snitzel to Australian Horse of the Year Winx sold for $2.3million and while the Segenhoe draft this year has no sibling to Australia's favourite racehorse, there is nevertheless a top class selection of 13 cracking youngsters on offer from a vendor on the rise.

Segenhoe Stud is now in the ownership of Kevin Maloney with renowned horseman Peter O'Brien at the helm and had its first yearling draft at Inglis Easter 2014, with an impressive 28% of the yearlings offered that year emerging as Group winners.

Segenhoe place the emphasis on producing athletes first and with the oldest graduates from the farm now four year-olds, the list of notable performers is a fast growing and impressive honour roll.

Segenhoe star performers include Group I winner Eagle Way, Group II winner Ektifaa, Group III winner El Divino, Group III winner Serene Majesty, plus promising three year olds Petition , Manuel , Canalasso, Waterloo Sunset and Clockwork Orange .

The current crop of two year olds include stakes-winner Madenaaty and promising types Villa Carlotta, Borooj, Legal Girl, Taking Aim, , Longmu and Ciaron Maher's impressive debut winner Merchant Navy.

Second foal of a winning sister to Group III winner Here De Angels and three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group III winner Miss Stellabelle.

Lot 66 Filly Medaglia D'Oro (USA) x Buckleupbuttercup (USA), by Najran



Second foal of seven time winning Group II winner and Group III winner Buckleupbuttercup and bred on highly successful El Prado x Blushing Groom nick that has produced over 40 stakes-winners.

Lot 70 Colt Exceed and Excel x Candlelight (USA), by Kingmambo



Dam has had four foals to race all winners with Peaceful Sea scoring after the catalogue went to print. From a half-sister to Group I winner and sire Grand Slam. Her 2YO Night Falls (Redoute's Choice) was retained and is in work with Darren Weir and reported to be among his best two year-olds.

Lot 71 Colt I Am Invincible x Captivating Claire (NZ), by O'Reilly



First foal of an unraced grand-daughter of Group I winner Marquise from the legendary Eight Carat (GB) family and has the dark colouring and bold eye typical of this iconic female family.

Half-brother to dual Group I winner Extreme Choice, MRC Blue Diamond Stakes and MVRC Moir Stakes against the older sprinters.

Lot 143 Filly Medaglia D'Oro (USA) x Florentina, by Redoute's Choice



Third foal of a Group III winning half-sister to Group I winner Gathering from the famed Dancing show family that has given us champion sire Redoute's Choice. The current 2YO from the mare Villa Carlotta (Street Cry) is a Randwick winner and good third in the Group II ATC Reisling Stakes with the Group II Percy Sykes her next assignment. Florentina is currently in the UK for a mating later this year with Dubawi.

Lot 174 Colt Redoute's Choice x Hifalutin, by Peintre Celebre (USA)



Third foal of Group III placed Hifalutin, a half-sister to stakes-winner Reprisal from the family of triple Group I winning filly Special Harmony. Bred on highly successful Danehill x Peintre Celebre nick that has produced 19 stakes-winners, five of them Group I winners. The 2YO from Hifalutin, Uptown Gal (Fastnet Rock) was a close third on debut at Cranbourne on Friday.
