Fabulous Fillies are the Broodmare Stars of Tomorrow

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 26
For serious investors seeking beautifully bred fillies to become their broodmare gems of tomorrow, the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale has always been the ultimate treasure trove of talent and this draft of six fillies from a Group I vendor is a must inspect.

Serena Bay Ian Smith's Edinburgh Park is a farm that has produced a world champion in Silent Witness, not to mention the likes of Bull Point, Sister Madly, Dances on Waves, Eximius and current flagbearers Amovatio and Golden Spin.

New stars are emerging all the time from Edinburgh Park including current season two year-olds Spoils, stakes-placed three times and Serena Bay(pictured Steve Hart) , who won her first two starts for the Waterhouse/ Bott stable before finishing fourth in the $500,000 Inglis Nursery to Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign.

Resuming from a spell with a brilliant win at Kembla on March 23, Serena Bay now heads to the Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick on April 8.

Edinburgh Park will offer the full sister to Serena Bay as Lot 68. By Sebring from the stakes-winner Caiguna, she is the third foal of her dam, whose first two foals are both smart winners. Her three year-old filly Seguna is now a winner of two races having saluted at Ballarat since the catalogue went to print.

Caiguna has another Sebring weanling filly to follow and is back in foal to Sebring, so if Serena Bay measures up to Group company this family has the potential to go ahead in leaps and bounds.

Another highly promising filly bred and sold by Edinburgh Park is this season's Group placed three year-old filly Miss Wonderland, who is trained by Ciaron Maher and her sister is also in the Easter draft.

By Snitzel from Alices's Smart (USA), she will be offered as Lot 31 and is the third foal of a well-bred import from the same family as Australian stars such as $7million earner Criterion and Group winners Varenna Miss, Comin Through and Bull Point.

Lot 233 is a lovely Sebring filly, the second foal of stakes-winning Anabaa (USA) mare Miss Marx and bred on the exact same cross as Sebring's Australian Horse of the Year Dissident.

Her first foal Wu Zhi Mountain, a colt by Pierro, made $210,000 at Magic Millions when bought by Sun Bloodstock and looked good in finishing second at his first barrier trial last week at Randwick for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

Lot 265 is a filly by Pierro and is the first foal from Nothin but a Dream (USA), who is a half-sister to Alice's Smart, the dam of Lot 31.

This family has worked with great success in Australia and these young mares are being given every opportunity to add to it. Nothin But a Dream has a weanling filly by Snitzel and is now in foal to Fastnet Rock.

Lot 355 is the third filly from this family and is by Medaglia D'Oro (USA) from Smokin Alice (USA), who is a sibling to the two previously mentioned mares Alice's Smart and Nothin But a Dream.

Smokin Alice has a Fastnet Rock colt to follow and is back in foal to him again.

Any buyer considering one of these closely related fillies should consider all three given the opportunities being given for this branch of the family to excel.

Rounding out the draft is Lot 403, another Sebring filly from an Anabaa (USA) mare, this one from the very good stakes-placed producer Turnstiles.

Turnstiles has had two foals to race and both are Group III placed with Revolving Door (also by Sebring) and Golden Spin offering the potential of stakes success in the future.
