Runner-up to Rising Romance in the 2014 ATC Australian Oaks when trained by the late Guy Walter, the Tait family homebred Zanbagh looked to be a major player in the major filly and mare races but wins have been hard to come by and very well spaced.
She broke a run of 12 outs when winning at Rosehill last season before claiming the 2016 Group II Emancipation Stakes.
Fast forward 12 months, Zanbagh claimed a second $200,000 Group II Emancipation Stakes (1600m) when Hugh Bowman guided the daughter of Bernardini (USA) to a hard-fought head win over
"I've had a great deal of success in these colours it's been a while since I wore them, I do wear them with pride and it's great to win this race for the Tait family, Bowman said.
"I had a perfect run. John was adamant that I be positive. She has been getting back and running on and having too much ground to make up.
"From a good draw I was able to get a nice run in transit and she really knuckled down when I needed her to.
Winning trainer John Thompson said Zanbagh would likely make her next start in the Queen Of The Turf
"Guy Walter won back to back Emancipation Stakes with Skyerush and it's good to do it again with Guy's horse," Thompson said.
"She has been getting back in her races and running on strongly and I said to Hugh if we could be closer that would be nice without being silly.
"She gets through the wet well, but the key was being within striking distance and you knew that she was going to be the strongest late, she always is."
Carrying the colours made famous by champions such as Tie the Knot, Baguette, Cabochon and Spinning Hill, Zanbagh is one of three winners from as many to race out of the Group I AJC Australian Oaks winner Wild Iris (Spectrum), who died in 2014.
