Capricornia Stars for Laurel Glen

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 22
Central Queensland thoroughbred breeders Kerrod and Glenda Smyth of Laurel Glen Equine are gearing up for the 2017 Capricornia Yearling Sale on April 2 at Rockhampton with a quality draft of seven youngsters.

The draft features yearlings by leading Queensland sires Hidden Dragon, Love Conquers All, Rothesay, Exceedingly Good, and Mahisara – click here for the pedigrees.

Over the years, Laurel Glen has been the nursery for many significant winners throughout Queensland with arguably its best advertisement Mythologist.

Recently retired, Mythologist (b g 6 Hidden Dragon-Satellite Girl x Speeding Fine) won 11 races and $256,850 in stakes under the guidance of trainer Lyle Rowe.

"Yes, Laurel Glen is very proud of Mythologist as he won the 2013 Capricornia 2YO Classic as well as the Classic for three-year-olds the next year," Kerrod Smyth said.

Well bred, along with being professionally nurtured, grown and handled, Laurel Glen has earned a reputation for presenting yearlings which tick the boxes through type and pedigree.

Highlights this year from Laurel Glen include Lot 38, a lovely colt by Rothesay from the General Nediym mare Cheree's General, who has produced three good winners headed by Honey Ko, a winner of nearly $100,000.

"A picture says a thousand words and 'Bart' is a near perfect type for a two-year-old winner. His pedigree and his mother's performances support as she was a Moonee Valley winner. On top of that she has produced three two-year-old winners. Judging by the southern inquiries, I believe he is among the top four selections of the sale," Smyth said.

Queensland's leading second crop sire Love Conquers All recently had his first stakes-winner with Savanna Amour winning the Group II MRC Angus Armanasco Stakes and Lot 29, a filly by him from Brisbane metro winner Blissful Belle is sure to generate interest.

By the same sire as Laurel Glen's favourite son Mythologist is Lot 5, a Hidden Dragon colt from stakes-placed Sophistocat, the dam of three foals to race all winners.
