One to Watch – Kyneton

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 20
We a love a Street Cry (IRE) filly and this one did enough when winning on debut as a hot favourite at Kyneton on Monday to be an obvious choice as the ‘One to Watch’.

Shamar as a yearlingTrained by Lee and Anthony Freedman, two year-old filly Shamar lived up to expectation when cruising home by a length and a quarter in the 1112 metre maiden.

A $155,000 Magic Millions purchase from Bhima Thoroughbreds draft for Belmont Bloodstock, Shamar runs for a big ownership group and will have massive value as a broodmare prospect should a Black Type career unfold.

Bred by GSA Bloodstock, Shamar is the first foal of Demonstrable, an Encosta de Lago daughter of royally bred Hela Dubai that was bought from Inglis Easter for $300,000.

Hela Dubai has been thoroughly disappointing at stud to date, although as a full sister to Group I winner and sire Al Maher from the famed family of Redoute’s Choice it will be no surprise if one of her daughters can turn this branch around.

Maybe that horse is Shamar!
