142nd Stakes Winner for Redoute's Choice

Mark Smith - Sunday March 19

Redoute's Choice filly Royal Star was promoted to the top line of betting or the WA Oaks following a 2-length win in Saturday's Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m) at Ascot.

William Pike sent the Bob and Sandra Peters homebred straight to the lead and never looked back to defeat the outsider Vain Stryker ( Authorized) and stablemate Very Tempting (Redoute's Choice).

It was the third win in four starts for Royal Star who lost her unbeaten record when sixth in the Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) at her most recent start.

"William had to make a decision, they were keeping him out and not letting him in so he had to go forward," Peters told The West Australian.

"I've said all along she's the best filly in the race with the worst preparation, so she must be very good to do what she did today."

A half-sister to last year's Group II Perth Cup winner Star Exhibit (Statue Of Liberty), Royal Star is the second foal and second winner of the Jeune mare Star Encounter who won 8 and placed in 7 of her 30 starts including the Listed Pinjarra Cup while accumulating $563,090 in prizemoney.

Star Encounter has a yearling filly by Redoute's Choice and a colt foal by Statue Of Liberty (USA). She was bred back to Statue Of Liberty (USA) last spring.

Royal Star becomes the 142nd stakes winner for Arrowfield Stud's Redoute's Choice (pictured).
