Our Ivanhowe Romps in Ranvet Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday March 18

Making his first start since finishing down the track in the Melbourne Cup, Our Ivanhowe (GER) relished his favoured bottomless conditions at Rosehill Gardens to romp home in Saturday's $700,000 Group I Ranvet Stakes (2000m).

Reunited with his Doomben Cup winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy, Our Ivanhowe (GER) came from well back in the 7-horse field to defeat Hartnell (GB) by three and a quarter lengths with defending champion The United States (IRE) giving the European imports a 1-2-3 finish. (photo Steve Hart).

Trained by Anthony and Lee Freedman, the handsome son of Soldier Hollow was winning for the first time since the Group I Doomben Cup last May.

"Even on hard tracks when he is feeling the ground he still gives everything. I am so proud of the horse today. He got his ground and did the job," Anthony Freedman said.

"It panned out beautifully for us. The horse deserves his day in the sun. He is a gentleman, an absolute pleasure to have and we're very grateful to have a horse who is so genuine.

"The agent in Germany who sold him said this is the best wet tracker in the world. Now we just have to find him another one."

The winner of five of his 10 overseas including a trouncing of the top-class Sea The Moon on a heavy track in the Group 1 Grosser Preis Von Baden before adding a second Group 1 in the Grosser Preis von Bayern when trained by Jean-Pierre Carvalho for Baron Georg von Ullman's Gestut Schlenderhan., Our Ivanhowe arrived in Australia via Japan where he finished sixth in the 2014 Group 1 Japan Cup won by Epiphaneia.

Reported to have cost $3 million, Our Ivanhowe needed nine starts to break his duck in his adopted homeland, which came in the Group I Doomben Cup.

His overall record advances to 7 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 24 starts with for earnings of $1,880,973.

Our Ivanhowe (GER) is out of the stakes-placed winner Sternkönig mare Indigo Girl a half-sister to Listed winner Irulan (Monsun) and Indian Breeze (Monsun).

Our Ivanhowe's sire, the German based, Soldier Hollow is a 4-time Group 1 winning son of the Sadler's Wells stallion In The Wings.
