Having his third run back from a spell, the Hayes/ Dabernig trained Derryn had race fitness on his side and ploughed through the wet ground for Regan Bayliss to score a length and three-quarter win in the 1200 metre sprint.
"He was blessed today because he really relished those conditions," Bayliss said.
"He's got a touch of class on his side so you put those two together and it makes a racehorse that's very hard to beat in these conditions."
A $110,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the Bylong Park Thoroughbreds draft, Derryn (images Steve Hart) runs for a big syndicate that includes Jonathan Munz's Pinecliff Racing in whose colours he runs.
Derryn has two wins and three placings from nine starts with prizemoney topping $200,000 and will have the opportunity for further success in coming weeks.
"I just loved the way he got on the bit and rounded them up. From the 600 I thought he had them covered," said co-trainer David Hayes.
"He'll head towards the Arrowfield now, which is a really good colts' race over the carnival and if it rains we'll dance."
Bred by Bylong Park, Derryn is the third winner for blue-blooded Lonhro mare Munhro, a half-sister to Group III winner Colour from the True Blonde branch of the Easy Date family that is noted for producing Golden Slipper winner Forensics.
Munhro was covered last spring by Pride of Dubai after failing to produce a foal in the two previous seasons.
Derryn is the ninth stakes-winner for Yarraman Park's Hinchinbrook, who has six entries for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
