All Too Hard Tops Adelaide MM Book One

Media Release - Tuesday March 14
After swooping on one of the two top sellers last night, the powerful Macdonald Gluyas stable was back in force at Morphettville today to buy the overall top seller of Book One at the 2017 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Hall of Fame horseman Leon Macdonald bid to $190,000 to secure the highly admired All Too Hard-Lady Paget colt from Gerry Harvey's Baramul Stud.

All Too Hard colt from Lady PagetLike he did last night Macdonald outlasted Gary Moore to secure the colt after a frenzied bidding battle.

The colt is the second foal of the twice winning Testa Rossa mare Lady Paget, a half sister to Adelaide Yearling Sale Group One winning graduate Casino Prince and four other stakes performers.

"He's a lovely colt," a delighted Leon Macdonald said. "I bought the two colts I wanted - the Stratum and this bloke, I thought they were as good as any colts on the complex."

"I've never had one (by All Too Hard) but I know Johnny Hawkes has great faith in him and he doesn't do a bad job with a horse," Macdonald added.

Leading Sydney trainer Gary Moore rebounded after missing out on the $190,000 All Too Hard colt and $170,000 Stratum colt to strike with the day's second top seller.

That colt, by former dual Cox Plate winner So You Think, was purchased by Moore for $155,000 from the draft of Bowness Stud.

So You Think colt from StarspangledConsigned as lot 286 the good looking brown colt is the sixth foal of the winning Danehill mare Starspangled - a daughter of five time Group One winner User Friendly.

"He's coming off a great stud farm," Moore said. "So You Think is doing the job at stud - I really love So You Think."

"His second dam is User Friendly who was racing at the same time as when I was riding in France."

"It's a beautifully balanced pedigree - he might be my first Derby winner," Moore added.

Over the two day's of selling over $10.2 million was traded on 250 lots sold at an average price of $41,026 and clearance rate of over 82 per cent.

The figures are just off last year's auction which saw the average price rise 33 per cent on 2015 and the gross soar 54 per cent.

"We've finished with a gross right in line with last year," Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.

"All in all today was a lot stronger than yesterday which was pleasing."

"The standout thing from this sale has been the participation of the trading market - the pin hookers for the two-year-old sales and also into the Asian market," Cox added.
