Mill Park Double at Morphettville

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 12
The Morphettville meeting on Saturday produced impressive wins for promising three year-old Mill Park graduates Soju Warrior and Smart Manoeuvre.

Soju Warrior as a yearlingPrepared by Mark Kavanagh, rapid improver Soju Warrior relished a step up to 1550 metres at his third run back from a spell to bolt clear and win by nearly seven lengths.

The son of New Approach (IRE) won his maiden easily at Kilmore two starts back before over racing when beaten into third place at Ballarat, but did everything right for this impressive win.

A $65,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from the Mill Park draft, Soju Warrior is a half-brother to stakes-winner Beluga Blue and smart winner Burgundy Blast being the third winner from three foals to race from Choice of Colours.

Stakes-placed twice at two, the Phillip Stokes trained Smart Missile filly Smart Maneouvre was overdue to break through for a win.

Resuming from a spell she was favourite for the 1300 metre maiden and overcame the outside gate in a field of 12 to win by half a length.

Retained to race by Mill Park and partners, Smart Manoeuvre is the first winner for stakes-placed Tale of the Cat (USA) mare Furline, a daughter of Group II winner Umaline.

Mill Park sold the current yearling from Furline, a filly by I Am Invincible for $500,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January.

Mill Park will offer another quality draft at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale this week, click here to see more.
