Twelfth Stakes Winner for Falvelon

Mark Smith - Saturday March 11

The Aaron Purcell-trained Falcool took the quantum leap from a maiden at Casterton and a benchmark 64 at Warrnambool to a Listed win in the Incognitus Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Super Saturday.

Ridden for the first time by Hugh Bowman, Falcool sat well back off the early speed down the rail side at the field split in two divisions.

Once in clear air, Falcool showed an impressive turn of foot to defeat Ken's Dream (Dream Ahead) by one and a quarter lengths with Sheriff John Stone (Reward For Effort) back in third. (photos Grant Courtney).

"He's been known to run along a bit but he wasn't that quick away," Bowman said.

"I had to choose which way I went, they split where I was so I thought I'll go to the inside because I'm there later on the day with Spieth.  "Barrier one might be the place to be.

"He was very much suited by the straight course. He travelled really smoothly for me mid-race. I did get a saloon passage, he really let down and was strong late."

A $60,000 purchase by his trainer from the Squillani Park Thoroughbreds draft at the 2015 Magic Millions sale, Falcool advances his overall record to three wins from 7 starts with earnings of $102,490.

A brother to the stakes-placed I'm Cool, the son of Falvelon is the fourth foal of the Belong To Me mare Bay Breeze whose dam At The Bay (At Talaq) is a half-sister to the brilliant Fluoro (Rory's Jester).

Squillani Park Thoroughbreds will offer a yearling filly by Casino Prince out of Bay Breeze (lot 23) at the upcoming Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling sale.

Bay Breeze has a filly foal by Good Journey (USA) and was bred back to Helmet last spring.

Falcool becomes the 12th stakes-winner for Glenlogan Park's evergreen Falvelon.
