One to Watch - Muswellbrook

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 9
The late Bart Cummings was not just a master horse trainer, he was also a great horse breeder and it was a two year-old he bred that caught the eye on Thursday when making a winning debut at Muswellbrook.

Prepared by Jan Bowen, two year-old Roman Emperor gelding Roman Typhoon was sent out a short priced favourite for the 900 metre maiden and ran right up to his impressive barrier trial performances.

Roman Typhoon as a yearling at the salesA giant of a horse standing at 17hands, he raced away to win by two and a quarter lengths and looks to have a very bright future.

Bowen has a big opinion of Roman Typhoon and has him entered in the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes at The Championships next month.

Roman Typhoon was purchased by his trainer for $22,000 from the Princes Farm draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Book 2.

Bred by Bart Cummings and sired by his Group I ATC Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor, Roman Typhoon is the second winner for Elle, a half-sister by General Nediym to stakes-winner Turner Bayou from the family of Group I winner Devil Moon.

The first winner for Elle, a four year-old Street Sense (USA) gelding called Exit Only was also purchased and trained by Bowen, so she would be now very familiar with this family!
