Elite 2YO Entered for Chairman's Sale

Media Release - Tuesday March 7

Highly promising stakes placed two-year-old Eden Roc is the latest addition to The Chairman's Sale with owner Alan Bell to offer the colt for sale in the historic Newmarket ring two days before Day 1 of The Championships.

Eden Roc (Star Witness x Hilton Head) became the most expensive yearling by his sire when selling for $750,000 last year, and in his three career starts to date the colt's raw ability has matched his good looks.

The strapping chestnut was runner-up on debut behind Exceeds, then placed third behind Veranillo in the Listed ATC Lonhro Plate before a fast finishing 1.1L fourth in the Group 2 ATC Skyline Stakes last start.

Alan Bell is a renowned judge of elite racehorses, having purchased Australian Champion Sprinters Schillaci and Primacy, WFA star and Champion Older Horse Grand Armee, and current hot sire prospects Deep Field and Star Turn, as yearlings at auction. Alan is excited to offer Eden Roc at the inaugural Chairman's Sale, just as jockey Tommy Berry has been to ride the colt.

"He will be just like Star Turn. He is a very exciting horse," said Berry after the colt's luckless debut.

Eden Roc's sire Star Witness has quickly established himself as one of Australia's top young stallions. His stakes winning progeny this current racing season include dual Group 1 winner Global Glamour, exciting filly Fuhryk, South African stakes winners Mella Maria and Lord Balmoral, plus outstanding 3YO sprinter Star Turn, which is a three-quarter-brother to Eden Roc.

"He has always shown tremendous ability, being right up there with the best two-year-olds in our stable. Being closely related to Star Turn he has similar traits and strength, and only with time will Eden Roc keep improving," adds co-trainer Michael Hawkes.

Eden Roc appeals as an ideal candidate for Hong Kong buyers looking for a Private Purchase (PP) prospect, with a current Hong Kong Jockey Club rating above 70.

Entries for the Elite Racing Prospects session of The Chairman's Sale close on Monday 27 March. The auction will then be held at 6pm on Thursday 30 March at Newmarket.
