A strong staying performance at Ellerslie from
Comin'through has pressed his claims for a trip to Brisbane later this year but he will need a name change should he come to Australia to avoid a mix up with the Chris Waller trained Comin' Through, a half-brother by champion sire Fastnet Rock to Criterion.
The three-year-old followed the earlier winning lead on Saturday of his
stablemate Tavidream to complete a double for trainers Donna Logan and Chris
Gibbs.
Comin'through's latest victory in the Barfoot & Thompson 2100 has the
connections of the Bullbars gelding seriously considering a crack at the Gr.1
Queensland Derby.
"He had to do a lot of work on Saturday and Leith (Innes) has been saying for
quite a while that this is a good horse. Brisbane will be high on the agenda
now.
"He can stay and he's beaten the older horses while he's still very green and
still learning.
"He looks a nice horse for Queensland and we'll see what happens with Tavidream
– he could go there as well and we haven't ruled out the Rosehill Guineas for
him either."
The stable isn't short on three-year-old talent with Romancer another in line
for a trip to Australia.
The winner of two of his six starts, including the Listed Mufhasa Stakes, he
was forced out of Saturday's Gr.1 New Zealand Derby by a foot injury.
"He's good now and he may well be going to Brisbane as well. There is some good
money on offer over there," Logan said.
Meanwhile, the stable's short-term Group One focus will be on
Volkstok'n'barrell's tilt at the Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes.
"We're really happy with him and we'll firm up future plans after Saturday,"
Logan said. – NZ Racing Desk.
