Aussie Bred Fastnet Group Three Winner in Japan

Australian bred Fastnet Rock mare Melagrana  claimed another feature race win in Japan at the weekend taking out the Group III Yukan Fuji Sho Ocean Stakes at Nakayama.

Melagrana as a yearlingTrained by Manabu Ikezoe, she won the 1200 metre sprint by half a length in a slick 1:08.30 seconds in the colours of Kazumi Yoshida.

Melagrana has won seven of 15 starts and this is her second stakes win.

Bred and consigned to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Emirates Park, Melagrana was snapped up by Yoshida for $200,000 and exported to Japan.

Melagrana is the best of four winners from Ghaliah and hails from a family developed by His Excellency Nasser Lootah over the past two decades. The plethora of stakes winners in the first three dams include Group winners Mutawaajid, Adeewin, Fatoon and Fat Al going back to multiple Group I winner Shaftesbury Avenue.

Ghaliah died last year and her final foal is a filly by Smart Missile, while her yearling colt by I am Invincible was sold by Emirates Park at the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he was snapped up by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott for $180,000.
