It was his second winner from nine runners to date, which also includes the smart Melbourne winner and Group III placed Tulip, along with the dual Sydney placed Ipso facto.
A $60,000 purchase for Hickman from the Goodwood Farm draft at Session Two of the Inglis Easter Sale, Pierone settled on the pace and kept going strongly to win the 950m event at Cowra.
"From one preparation to the next, she has improved so much,” said Hickman.
"There are plenty of races to be won with her as I think she’ll just keep on getting better and better. I have the $100,000 Wellington Boot in mind for her.”
She is a half-sister to former Group I Golden Rose winner Manawanui and becomes the sixth winner for her dam Lady Remlap (Filante).
Hickman, who recently purchased another of Pierro’s offspring at the
Inglis Classic sale, added.
"I have a pair of two year-olds by him and the other one is a colt that I like a lot called Pierata. He trialled nicely at Randwick in the Spring, but he was a late foal with plenty of maturing to do so I put him away for a while. He’s back in work now and I’ll target the Brisbane Carnival with him. He’s got plenty of ability.”
Pierro has a draft of 33 yearlings set to go under the hammer at next month's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
