American Pharoah to stand in Australia

Tom Walter - Thursday March 2

US Triple Crown hero American Pharoah will shuttle to Coolmore Australia for the 2017 southern hemisphere breeding season.

American Pharoah.

American Pharoah became the first US Triple Crown winner in 37 years when completing the treble in the 2015 Grade I Belmont Stakes (1-1/2m) – joining the likes of Affirmed (1978), Seattle Slew (1977), and Secretariat (1973).

American Pharoah retired the winner of eight Grade I races with a Timeform rating of 138.

"We have been overwhelmed by interest from Australasian breeders in American Pharoah ever since he retired to stud in Kentucky," Coolmore Australia's Tom Magnier said in a statement.

"It's well recognised that he is a once-in-a-lifetime horse and the opportunity to bring him to Australia is an irresistible one.

"I was at Belmont Park the day he won the third leg of the Triple Crown and I can honestly say I have never seen a racehorse like him in my life.

"He is a faultless physical specimen and free of Danehill blood, so is a perfect complement to our own band of Fastnet Rock and Danehill mares.

"We will be supporting him with our own quality mares and we have already had a number of top breeders approach us with the intention of supporting him heavily."

American Pharoah will stand the 2017 southern hemisphere season at Coolmore Australia for a fee of $66,000 (including GST).
