Since Undoubtedly won the Group I Blue Diamond Stakes in 2005 Arrowfield stallions have dominated Melbourne's signature two-year-old race.
A second crop son of 1999 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Redoute's Choice, Undoubtedly was one of two winners of the race for the breed-shaping stallion.
The second came a year later when Nadeem scored a shock defeat of his more fancied stablemate Miss Finland.
Also by Redoute's Choice, Miss Finland went on to win the Golden Slipper.
In 2007 Sleek Chassis won the Blue Diamond for Arrowfield stalwart Flying Spur and in 2008 Reaan, a son of Hussonet made it four in a row for Arrowfield stallions.
In 2013 the mighty midget Miracles Of Life became the first winner of the Blue Diamond for Not a Single Doubt and the high-class Extreme Choice doubled that tally last year.
It's been over a decade since Redoute's Choice last sired the winner of the race but we think he has a great chance on Saturday with Peter and Paul Snowden's progressive colt Pariah. (photo Steve Hart).
While many though he was lucky at his career debut to defeat Menari in the Group III Canonbury Stakes at Rosehill on January 21, Pariah showed his class when a fast-finishing second behind the high-class Property (Starcraft) in the Group III Blue Diamond Prelude.
It was an invaluable look at the tricky Caulfield circuit and is certain to have benefitted by the experience.
Bred by Arrowfield and partners, Pariah (pictured as a yearling) was a $700,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield draft for James Harron Bloodstock and runs for a syndicate of JHB clients.
He has a real Blue Diamond pedigree.
A three-quarter brother-in-blood to dual Group I winner Melito, Pariah is the first foal of the Sydney winning Hussonet (USA) mare Secluded whose dam Cloisters (Marauding) won the Listed VATC Debutante Stakes.
Cloister's dam Pampas Fire (Prince True) also won the Debutante Stakes. She is a half-sister to 1988 Blue Diamond winner Zeditave as well as the Group III Blue Diamond Prelude (C & G) winner Square Deal, the Group III VATC Blue Diamond Prelude (F) winner
Saturday's race may also provide a first for two of the most successful stallions of modern times.
Fastnet Rock and Snitzel are searching for their first Blue Diamond winner.
Fastnet Rock has five chances with the colts Cao Cao and Will's Bid, and the fillies Catchy, Formality and Roomooz.
Snitzel has the Tony McEvoy-trained Azazel and Ciaron Maher's undefeated colt Jukebox.
