Ducimus Brings Up The Half Century for Snitzel

Mark Smith - Saturday February 18

The Snitzel show rolls on - the impressive two-year-old colt Ducimus brought up a half century of stakes-winners for the star Arrowfield stallion with his dominant performance in Saturday's Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington.

A first-up winner at Ballarat, Ducimus began awkwardly for Noel Callow but quickly gathered speed to lead.

He raced greenly about five horses off the fence down the straight before ducking back to the rail and severely inconveniencing the third placed Sanadaat ridden by Craig Williams.

Williams fired in a protest against the winner she was dismissed.

Callow said it was exciting times ahead for the team Hawkes-trained colt.

"He only did what he had to do (at Ballarat) but today he was out there on his own, he wanted to lay in, he's still green and he still put them away.

"He's a big kid, when he starts going straight, which he will because it's early days, he is going to be a nice horse.

"When the penny drops it's going to be very exciting – Caulfield Guineas I think."

The $700,000 sale-topper at the 2016 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Ducimus was bred by WA based Oakland Park Stud and offered for sale by Blue Gum Farm as agent.

Bought by L Hung/ Bahen Bloodstock, Ducimus is the eighth winner from eight to race from the Danehill Dancer (IRE) mare Beauty World who was purchased by Belmont Bloodstock for what now looks a bargain $50,000 at the 2012 Inglis Easter Broodmare sale.

At the time of her sale, Beauty World had produced the Group I placed American Crew but the first of her four stakes-winners Loveamadly (Bel Esprit) had yet to achieve black-type. She righted that when winning the Listed Abell Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The fifth foal of Beauty World, Hi World (High Chaparral) was even better winning the Group III ATC Packer Plate and Group III Carbine Club Stakes.

The foal Beauty World was carrying at the time of her sale, the Henrythenavigator gelding Lite'n In My Veins won the Group III WATC Sir E Lee-Steere Classic in 2015.

Covered by Rogano the following season, Beauty World produced the promising stakes-placed gelding Where's Wally.

Oakland Park Stud up its sights by sending Beauty World to Snitzel in 2014 and Ducimus is the result.

The daughter of Danehill Dancer (IRE) has a filly foal by Sepoy and was among the 224 mares covered by Written Tycoon last spring.
