The beautifully-bred Emirates Park home-bred Funoon made a
dream start to her racing career when storming home late in the
Beaumont-Newcastle straight to score on her debut appearance.
A 2-year-old daughter of Dream Ahead (USA) produced from the
stud's celebrated broodmare Fatoon, Funoon went in to her first career start on
the back of an easy barrier trial at Randwick in mid-January. Assigned a
900-metre 2YO maiden event (which subsequently proved to be run at a frenzied
pace), the James Cummings-trained filly settled well back off the pace in the
opening stages before ultimately finishing the essay off with a blistering
finishing burst.
The sectional times of the contest illustrate the rate at
which Funoon finished to land the event by a clear-cut two lengths winning
margin. The final 600m was timed to be a scintillating 33.19s!
Funoon is only the second filly produced by Fatoon, one of
Emirates Park's premium racetrack performers and most prized broodmares. Winner
of the Group 2 STC Reisling Slipper Trial as a 2-year-old and then the Group 3
AJC Sapphire Stakes at three, Fatoon has since gone on to become a celebrated
member of the stud's broodmare band as the dam of Group 1 ATC Epsom Handicap
winner Fat Al.
Funoon is the latest impressive debut winner for Emirates
Park's shuttle sire Dream Ahead. A maternal grand-daughter of the stud's great
servant Snaadee (USA), she is bred on the same Dream Ahead-Danzig cross as last
Saturday's Group 3 ATC Eskimo Stakes placegetter Generalissimo, as well as the
domestic stakes horses Dreams Aplenty and Dream Kisses.
Dream Ahead is represented by 17 Lots (click here to see them) in this weekend's 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale to be staged at the Newmarket Sales Complex in Sydney over 11-13 February. A quality selection hails from Emirates Park families responsible for the likes of Funoon and such distinguished stakes winners as Dash For Cash, Oasis Bloom, Boomwaa, Underestimation, Lady Purpose, Hadaaf etc.
