Fourth Stakes Win For Hellova Street

Mark Smith - Sunday February 5

After living in the shadow of Admiral in recent seasons, the Scott Brunton-trained Hellova Street turned the table on his old foe in Sunday's $100,000 Listed Luxbet Thomas Lyons Stakes (1400m) at Hobart.

The race has proved to be a real family affair as Hellova Street's year older brother Streetwise Savoire won the same race on 2015.

Ridden for the first time by visiting Sydney jockey Brenton Avdulla, the thoroughly brave 6yo gelding led them up early before being tackled for the lead by Box Of Frogs.

Hellova Street took the lead again when turning for home but he looked to be running on empty when challenged by stablemate Lord Da Vinci and Admiral.

Surprisingly, it was Admiral that was first to crack while Hellova Street continued to find that little bit more to edge out Lord Da Vinci (Lonhro)by a short-head with Admiral (Mossman) two and a quarter lengths back in third.

It was a welcome change of luck for Hellova Street who was second behind Burning Front at Caulfield at his most recent start and was beaten by Admiral in two Listed events at Launceston in January.

It was the fourth stakes win for the son of Helike who claimed to renewals of the Listed TTC Newmarket Handicap and Listed TTC tattsbet.com stakes.

His overall record advances to 11 wins, 7 seconds and 3 thirds from 26 starts with earnings of $439,275.

Bred and raced by Melinda and Larry Lamont and partners, Hellova Street is the second foal and second stakes-winner from the Secret Savings mare Butter Street a half-sister to the talented Miss Softhands (Bel Esprit) and the Foreplay gelding Kazio who made an exciting career debut with a fast-finishing win at Sale moments before his nephew's stakes win.

Butter Street has a 2yo colt by Tough Speed, a yearling colt by Needs Further and a colt foal by Mawingo (GER).
