The
stars were stepping out at the Rosehill trials on Tuesday morning with Australian
Horse of the Year Winx a pleasing third and brilliant sprinting colt Star Turn
an easy winner in the Vinery Stud colours, but it's the two year-olds that
interest us for this story.
Six juvenile heats were conducted over 900 metres and the fastest winner was
also probably the most interesting from a pedigree perspective as this
Godolphin runner is a half-sister to Group I Golden Rose winner Astern by
Golden Slipper winner Sepoy.
A big strong filly that towered over her rivals, Alizee jumped quickly for
James Doyle to travel up to second and then ran down the leader Didn't Mention
It to win by a length and a half in 53.80 seconds.
She is the fourth foal of Essaouira, whose three previous are Group I winner Astern,
Group III placed Mogador and the pretty handy Marrakesh, so hopefully Alizee
will keep her mother's record perfect when she steps out on raceday.
There's no hiding the fact Alizee's sire Sepoy has been thoroughly disappointing,
but they all get one and maybe she will be his.
Not a Single Doubt colt Condor Heroes was a star at the early season trials and
then chased Khan home for second in the Listed ATC Breeders Plate.
The Gerald Ryan trained colt was a man on a mission in his trial leading
throughout and surging clear to win by nearly eight lengths in 54 seconds eased
down.
A $190,000 Magic Millions purchase for Sun Bloodstock from the Riversdale
draft, Condor Heroes is bred on the same cross as dual Group I winner Miracles
of Life being from Gosetgo, a daughter of More Than Ready (USA).
Other two year-old trials were won by All Too Soon (All Too Hard), Tiki Bar
(Sepoy), Ikaba (Red Element) and Sambro (Fastnet Rock).
