Chairman's Sale Heads New Inglis Easter Schedule

Media Release - Friday January 27

The introduction of an exciting new concept in thoroughbred sales either side of the Australian Easter Yearling Sale is set to create the biggest fortnight of horse auctions in Australasian history.

To celebrate the looming release of the 2017 Easter catalogue, Inglis is unveiling The Chairman's Sale, an opportunity for leading horse owners, trainers and breeders to offer their high class thoroughbreds to arguably the strongest buying bench ever assembled in Australia.

Positioned either side of the time-honoured Easter Yearling Sale and The Championships, The Chairman's Sale will be held over two sessions, a week apart, in the middle of what is already a thriving Sydney autumn carnival.

The inaugural Chairman's Sale Session I - Elite Racing Prospects - will be held at the Inglis Newmarket complex on Thursday night, March 30, just prior to Day 1 of The Championships.

Its primary offering will be the opportunity to purchase all or a percentage of selected runners entered in The Championships to be conducted over the following two Saturdays at Royal Randwick.

Owners will have the chance to sell down their ownership in some of Australia's leading racehorses to highly motivated investors looking to experience the thrill of having a runner over Sydney's richest fortnight of racing.

The Racing Agency will be assisting Inglis in recruiting horses for the sale.

The Chairman's Sale Session II - Elite Breeding Prospects - will be held on Friday night, April 7, the day after the conclusion of the Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Its primary offering will be top class breeding prospects on or off the track, broodmares in foal to Australasia's finest sires, as well as stallion shares or breeding rights in the country's leading stallions and select, highly-credentialed weanlings.

The Australian Easter Yearling Sale will remain in its original place for three days starting Tuesday April 4, before a revamped Australian Weanling and Broodmare Sale, which will run for three days from Monday April 10.

The new-look scheduling comes as Inglis celebrates its 150th year in business.

Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster believes the revitalisation of the Easter sales period will be a winner for all industry participants.

"The Chairman's Sale will present the perfect platform for investors to buy into some of the country's leading racehorses, as well as top-class broodmares and weanlings,'' Webster said.

"With the focus of the thoroughbred world on Sydney over this period, it then makes sense to revert to the proven formula of having the Australian Weanling and Broodmare Sale straight after Easter, as it provides vendors a greater buying market for their offerings.

"You don't improve if you don't continue to seek feedback from clients and we now believe the move back from May for the Weanling and Broodmare Sale will benefit our clients and allows us the potential to continue this new structure more effectively at our new site at Warwick Farm in years to come."
