The four-year-old son of Pentire has been retired will stand at Newhaven Park Stud in New South Wales where his fee in 2017 will be $15,000 plus gst.

Xtravagant won the Group I New Zealand 2000 Guineas and the Group I Waikato Sprint last season at three but failed to reproduce that form in three starts in Australia, all at Group level.

At his last start he finished 12th of 13 behind Bon Aurum in the Group I Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on September 24.

Jamie Richards, who trained Xtravagant in partnership with Stephen Autridge, paid tribute to the entire in a statement

"Stephen and I were so lucky to train such a gifted and talented horse, he was incredibly fast, had a wonderful turn of foot and everything you look for in a racehorse," Richards said.

"To be involved in such a horse this early in my career was a privilege and we wish the team at Newhaven all the very best with a truly wonderful racehorse."
