Vale, Noel Leckie

Media Release - Tuesday January 24
The New South Wales Racing Industry is mourning the sudden passing earlier today of Mr Noel Leckie, Chairman of Scone Race Club and the breeder of this year's Magic Millions winner Houtzen.

Mr Leckie, 64, served on Scone's Committee for 23 years with more than 20 of those years spent as either Vice-Chairman or Chairman.

"Noel was one of the most conscientious and professional racing administrators I've had the pleasure of dealing with," said Racing NSW's CEO, Mr Peter V'landys AM.

"He was always passionate and a major asset to Scone Race Club.

"Without doubt Noel's efforts landed Scone its stand-alone Saturday meeting and remains the only country club to have one."

The two-day Scone Cup Carnival was first staged in 2011 is now entrenched as one of the country's biggest race carnivals.

"I am personally saddened by Noel's passing. He was the complete gentleman and a fine human being who will be greatly missed," added Mr V'landys.

Noel Leckie operated a Chartered Accountancy practice for 24 years in Scone, having previously worked at Coopers & Lybrand, and was educated at Trinity Grammar School, Summer Hill, Sydney.

Mr Leckie was also a prominent owner / breeder and part-owned outstanding three-time Stakes winner Voodoo Lad ($670,000 in prizemoney) who ran third in the 2014 Country Championships Final at Royal Randwick.

Mr Leckie is survived by wife Julie and children, Campbell and Skye.
