First Winner for Oaks Queen

Tara Madgwick - Sunday January 22
Strawberry Hill Stud homebred Long Time Ago became the first winner for Group I AJC Australian Oaks winner Once Were Wild when saluting at Wyong on Sunday.

Redoute's ChoiceThe three year-old daughter of Redoute's Choice is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, who turned the filly out in top order for her first run back from a spell.

Seventh of nine at her only previous start back in August when she was slowly away, Long Time Ago was a different filly this time around.

Sent out favourite for the 1200 metre maiden, Long Time Ago covered ground all the way under Kerrin McEvoy and wobbled around the turn out wide, but found the line well to score by a neck in an encouraging performance.

She is the first foal of Once Were Wild, who won the AJC Australian Oaks for Waterhouse and John Singleton in 2010.

Once Were Wild has a yearling colt and weanling colt by Redoute's Choice and was covered last spring by Hinchinbrook
