Up and Coming Sires Out in Force at Karaka

One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming National Yearling Sales Series at Karaka is the strong representation of talented young sires who are rapidly making names for themselves with outstanding racetrack results.

New Zealand's two-year-old racing so far this season has been headlined by the spectacular debuts of first-crop sires Power and Burgundy .

PowerAlready the sire of 17 winners in Europe (four at stakes level), Power has made a similarly bright start in New Zealand. The Cambridge Stud shuttler has raced to the top of the first season sire standings, thanks in large part to his daughter Gift Of Power (NZ) who has won three of her four starts including the Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes and Listed Wellesley Stakes. There are 29 Power yearlings in the Karaka 2017 catalogues.

Fellow Cambridge Stud stallion Burgundy has made a similarly impressive start. A three-quarter brother to Darci Brahma, Burgundy was a five-time stakes winner in his 12-start racing career. He has sired three winners from just four foals to race so far in his first crop. Burgundy has 12 yearlings catalogued for Karaka 2017.

Super Easy , a star Singapore galloper and half-brother to Group One winners Terravista and Tiger Tees, has also enjoyed early success with his first two-year-old crop. The Hallmark Stud stallion sits in third place on the New Zealand sires of two-year-olds table, with his speedy daughter Prom Queen (NZ) unbeaten in two starts including the Listed Welcome Stakes. There are 28 Super Easy yearlings catalogued for Karaka.

So You ThinkChampion racehorse So You Think 's oldest crop are now three, and he has already sired 18 winners including the Group 1 gavelhouse.com New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner La Diosa (NZ). His eight yearlings will be in high demand at Karaka.

The leading second season sire in New Zealand in 2016-17 is Inglewood Stud's Zacinto , with outstanding three-year-old Ugo Foscolo (NZ) leading the way. The gelding won the Group 1 Sothys New Zealand 2000 Guineas and Group 2 James & Annie Sarten Memorial. Zacinto has 12 yearlings catalogued for Karaka 2017.

Foxwedge is another second season sire who has enjoyed outstanding success, siring 52 winners from 136 runners including Group 2 winners Foxplay and the unbeaten Volpe Veloce . Four Foxwedge yearlings will go under the hammer at Karaka.

Arguably the world's most exciting young stallion is Frankel , the legendary racehorse who won all 14 of his starts including 10 at Group 1 level. He has sired 18 winners from 44 runners to date, six of them at stakes level including Japanese Group 1 winner Soul Stirring .

Frankel has already made an enormous impression at Karaka, topping the 2016 Premier Sale with his only yearling in the catalogue – Pencarrow Stud's colt out of Grand Echezeaux, which sold for $1.3 million. There is one Frankel yearling in the 2017 Premier Sale, a colt out of the stakes-winning German mare Give Me Five.

Resident Brighthill Farm stallion Dalghar has fourteen yearlings on offer at the Sale. Dalghar has sired 40 runners to date with an impressive 14 winners having won a total of 24 races, including ARC Champagne Stakes and Soliloquy Stakes winner Astara .

Champion Australian stayer Shocking - who's Group 1 wins include the VRC Australian Cup,Melbourne Cup,Makybe Diva Stakes, Queensland Derby,andMRC Herbert Power Stakes - has twenty-four yearlings going under the hammer at Karaka 2017. Shocking filly Fanatic (NZ) won the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks last season, one of the 85 wins recorded by Shocking runners since he commenced stud duties in 2011.

Standing at Highview Stud Bullbars commenced his stud duties in 2012. To date he has had 18 runners with six winners having won eight races including El Sicario who ran second in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes and Rider Horse owned Mongolianlightning who won impressively as a 2 year old. Bullbars has six yearlings catalogued for Karaka 2017.

Sire of six winners across Australia and New Zealand including stakes winner Romancer, and winners Chamalu, Swampland, Our Sequoia, Night's Watch, and Rising Red – Westbury Stud sire Redwood has fourteen yearlings catalogued in the Sale.

Roc de Cambes , the sire of 64 progeny to race who have claimed 59 wins, including Group 1 MRC Toorak Handicap winner He's Our Rokkii . There are 10 yearlings by Roc de Cambes to go under the hammer across the Select and Festival Sales.

Standing at Little Avondale Stud, Per Incanto commenced his stud duties in 2011. His first two full crops have achieved great success on racetracks in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. With 132 runners to date, producing 61 winners of 108 races, Per Incanto has definitely stamping his mark through the likes of Group 1 winner Dal Cielo , Group 2 winner Saracino and Listed winners Rocanto and Tennessee . 29 Per Incanto yearlings are catalogued for Karaka 2017.
