Aquis
Farm's Benfica has just completed a busy first season in Queensland covering over
80 mares and was in the frame at Coffs Harbour on Sunday with a debut two year-old
winner.
The Daniel Want trained filly Benasong charged home from the tail of the field to
score a thrilling nose win in the 800 metre maiden with three lengths back to
the third horse.
Benasong is the first winner for Commands mare Onasong, a grand-daughter pf
Group III winner Lusso.
A Group I winning son of Lonhro, Benfica has been a popular addition at Aquis
Farm having previously stood for Darley in New South Wales.
Standing at a fee of $4,400, he covered
more mares this year than in each of his previous four seasons.
