Star Colts Add Quality to Aquis MM Draft

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 5
A leading buyer at Magic Million in 2016, dynamic Queensland bloodstock operation Aquis Farm have returned to the Gold Coast this year as vendors presenting a large and diverse draft of 23 for themselves and clients, who include respected Group I breeders Emirates Park.

Aquis will present seven yearlings for Emirates Park including a colt by exciting young sire Pierro from Varenna Miss, who was purchased for $1million by Emirates at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

"We are delighted to have been entrusted with yearlings from Emirates Park, as they are such a famous stud with years of history," said Jonathan Crowley, Director of Sales.

There is a long list of superior performers bred and or/sold by Emirates Park over the years such as Al Maher, Dash for Cash, Country Tyrone and company, but none have been greater than champion sire Encosta de Lago.

Consigned as Lot 556, the star colt (pictured) by Pierro is the third foal of former brilliant racemare Varenna Miss, a Group II winning half-sister by Redoute's Choice to $7 million earner Criterion.

Varenna Miss is a daughter of exceptional producer Mica's Pride, who is well on her way to 'blue hen' status as she is also the dam of this season's highly promising Group III winning Fastnet Rock colt Comin' Through and stakes-winner Silently, the dam of Group III winner Muwaary.

"I am very happy with our draft of yearlings at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. This is our biggest draft to date and we are anticipating a successful sale with both the horses that we have to offer and ventures that will be made available to new and existing clients," Crowley said.

"The Pierro colt from Varenna Miss is all quality with a stallion's pedigree. He will obviously be one of our busier horses in the lead up to the start of the sale."

Also tipped to impress is Lot 419, a handsome brown colt by Golden Slipper winner Vancouver's sire Medaglia D'Oro (USA) from the former Darley mare Sangfroid, a daughter of champion sire Lonhro.

Bred by Aquis Farm, the colt is the second living foal of Sangfroid, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I winner and sire Denman. Sangfroid is a daughter of Group I winner Preserve and is a sibling to Group winners Safeguard and Archives.

Other draft highlights include:
