Old Marvel Destiny's Kiss Does It Again

Mark Smith - Monday January 2

Five of the usual suspects contested Monday's $150,000 Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2000m) but it would be hard to knock the winner Destiny's Kiss whose earnings edge ever closer to $1 million.

As is his usual pattern Destiny's Kiss sat back at the tail of the field for Brenton Avdulla as race favourite Iggi Pop was granted an uncontested lead for ace Victorian apprentice Regan Bayliss  .

At the point of the turn, Jay Ford on Shalmaneser put the pressure on Iggi Pop who was not up for a fight.

Index Liked (GB) was the first to put the pressure on Shalmaneser but he had no answer when Destiny's Kiss mounted his challenge down the outside.

The 8yo gelding toughed out a three-quarter length win over Index Linked (GB) with Shalmaneser three lengths back in third.

It was the fifth stakes win for the son of Power Of Destiny advancing his record to 14 wins, 5 seconds and 8 thirds from 63 starts with earnings of $941,203.

"He's been racing in really good heart all preparation so we came here today pretty confident, the horse looks great and he loves that mile and a half," winning trainer Joe Pride said

'He's a pretty simple horse to keep ticking over he does not need a lot of work.

The horse deserves all the credit he's an absolute marvel, an eight year old having his 63rd start and still sound enough to be competitive in Sydney, you rarely see it.

The preparation may not be over just yet for Destiny's Kiss.

"There's the Gosford Cup and the Australia Day Cup, we'll just take him home and have a look at him if he needs a little break to break before we give him a go in the winter we'll do that, Pride said.

I've got to retire him one day but it's hard to retire a horse that keeps winning."

A hombred for Nick Moraitis, Destiny's Kiss failed to meet his modest $8,000 reserve at the 2010 Classic Sale.

He is out of the stakes-placed Stravinsky (USA) mare A Fairy's Kiss who is a sister to Listed stakes winner and Group 1 VRC Oaks runner-up Miss Scarlatti and a half-sister to Listed stakes winner Abidewithme (Redoute's Choice).

A Fairy's Kiss has a 2yo colt by So You Think and a yearling colt by Pierro and a Star Witness filly foaled on November 17.
