Group One Goals for Showcasing's Cylinder Beach

Mark Smith - Saturday December 31

Desleigh Forster's exciting Cylinder Beach looked to have the task ahead in running down the freewheeling Man of His Word and Hopfgarten in Saturday's $250,000 Listed Bernborough Handicap (1600m) at Eagle Farm but his fierce will to win carried him to his third stakes success.

On a day where track records fell race after race, Cylinder Beach scorch around the mile in 1.34.51 seconds, taking 1.71s off the previous record.

He defeated Man of His Word (Lope De Vega) by a half-length with the gallant topweight Hopfgarten (Mossman) a short-half-head back in third.

"I decided not to tax him by sending him to Sydney for the Villiers two weeks ago. Instead we wanted to win three stakes races in Brisbane," Forster told AAP.

"He should have won all three instead of winning the Recognition Stakes and then finishing an unlucky second in the Brisbane Handicap."

"We might bring him back for one run in the Sydney autumn but the winter has always been our target," Forster said.

"I think a race like the Group One Doomben Cup is right up his alley."

"He is starting to get up in the ratings and he can now look at the better races.

With his second stakes win Cylinder Beach advances his overall record to 4 wins, 2 seconds and 3 thirds from 13 starts with earnings of $430,150.

The son Haunui Farm's highly successful shuttler Showcasing (GB) was consigned by Te Runga Stud to the NZ Bloodstock 2014 Ready to Run Sale of 2YOs, where he failed to make his $60,000 reserve.

He is the seventh foal of the imported Rainbow Quest mare Queen's Colours.

A winner of two races in Ireland, Queen's Colours is a three-quarter sister to Listed to Listed winner Valley Quest and a half-sister to Group 1 Sydney Cup winner The Offer (Montjeu) and Listed winners Cymbal (Singspiel) and Musha Merr (Sadler's Wells).

After missing in 2014 and slipping ion 2015, Queen's Colours was covered by Showcasing (GB) again last spring.

Showcasing has just one lot in the NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling sale but has huge representation in the Select and Festival sales.
