Consolation for Spendthrift Australia

Tara Madgwick - Monday December 26
Spendthrift Australia enjoyed a great result with one of their high profile purchases posting a winning debut at Geelong on Boxing Day in two year-old Fastnet Rock colt Will's Bid.

Wills' Bid as a yearlingTrained by the Hayes / Dabernig partnership, Will's Bid scored a comfortable three-quarter length win in the 1140 metre maiden.

He jumped from the outside gate in the field of eight for Callan Murray and despite racing greenly and being posted three wide found the line strongly in a most merit worthy debut.

An $800,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Milburn Creek draft, Will's Bid was the most expensive of four colts bought by Spendthrift at the Gold Coast in 2016.

Earlier in the day, another of those colts, Hualalei finished unplaced as favourite at Randwick.

Bred by Makybe, Will's Bid is a half-brother to Champion Sprinter and successful sire Starspangledbanner and is the eighth winner from top producer Gold Anthem.

He is also a three-quarter brother-in-blood to Group I winning Fastnet Rock mare Amicus and while the Magic Millions 2YO Classic will come too soon for Will's Bid, there are sure to be many other nice races on his radar.
