Onemorenomore Filly Pulls Off a Shock at Randwick

Mark Smith - Monday December 26

The Newgate Sizzling Juvenile Handicap (1000m) at Randwick on Boxing Day looked to be going to script on the home turn when the highly regarded Darhad (All Too Hard) and the heavily backed odds-on favourite Hualalai (Street Cry) led them up rounding the home turn but as the early pace began to take its toll the swoopers swamped them in the closing stages.

Firstly the John Thompson debutant Meliboea (Sebring) was being hailed the winner before being joined by stablemate One More Honey (Onemorenomore) and Godolphin's Banish (Lonhro).

Jay Ford extracted the best out of One More Honey to win by a half-neck from Banish with Meliboea a head back in third.

"They are two nice fillies, Thompson said of the winner and third placegetter.

"I was wondering if today the race might be a bit sharp for them.

They are fillies that have a go and di8g deep.

I said to Jay before the race, she is a real little bulldog.

It's my first runner (for Emirates Park). It's good to get a win for them at Randwick. Nice owners to have in the stable and hopefully there will be plenty of more wins.

Though she is out of an imported American mare, One Funny Honey (USA) (by Distorted Humor), One More Honey's pedigree is very familiar in these parts.

Making just two starts as a 4yo, finishing runner-up in an Aqueduct Maiden, One Funny Honey (USA) is out the Bluebird mare Lan Kwai Fong, winner of the Group III Vanity Stakes and runner-up in the Group I VRC Oaks and Group II Wakeful Stakes.

Purchased for $250,000 at the 2006 Keeneland September Yearling sale, One Funny Honey (USA) was back in the same sales ring four years later where she was purchased by Patinack Farm for $40,000.

With the demise of Patinack, the daughter of Distorted Humor was knocked down to Emirates Park Stud for $50,000 at the Patinack Dispersal in 2014.

She was carrying One More Honey at the time of her sale.

Retained to race by Emirates Park, One More Honey was making her career debut.

She has a yearling half-brother by Lope De Vega (IRE) and a half-sister by Dream Ahead (USA) who was born on September 30.

After making a slow start to his stud career at Vinery, Onemorenomore was transferred to Ridgeview Park Stud in 2015, which coincided with a flurry of winners.
