Statue Of Liberty's Star Exhibit in Stakes Breakthrough

Mark Smith - Saturday December 24

Star Exhibit made his stakes debut at his 16th race start and was a beaten favourite but it took him just one more start to break his stakes duck, which came in Saturday's $100,000 Listed A.T.A. Stakes (2200m) at Ascot.

Patiently ridden by Glenn Smith, Star Exhibit settled back last of the nine starters.

The 5yo son of Statue Of Liberty (USA) showed a superior turn of foot in the straight to defeat Respondent (Haradasun) by one and a quarter lengths with Dark Musket (Musket) a short-head back in third.

It advances the overall record of Star Exhibit to 7 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds from 16 starts with earnings of $353,275.

A homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters, Star Exhibit is the first foal of the Peters' top racemare Star Encounter (Jeune) who numbered a single Listed stakes win but placed in the WA Oaks, WA Derby and Strickland Stakes on the way to compiling a record of eight wins and seven placings from 30 starts with earnings of $563,090.

Star Encounter has a 2yo Redoute's Choice filly named Perfect Jewel and foaled a brother to Star Exhibit on September 7.

Star Exhibit becomes the 19th stakes-winner for Sun Stud's Statue Of Liberty (USA).

Yearlings by the royally-bred son of Storm Cat will be in short supply next year.

He does not have a representative in either the Gold Coast Magic Millions or the Inglis Classic and just one in the Inglis Premier Yearling sale.
