Magic Millions Next for Nicconi Colt

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 24
Stuart Ramsey's Turangga Farm have already bred and sold a Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner in Karuta Queen and will have a runner in the race this year following a stylish victory at Rosehill on Christmas Eve for Falconic, who was purchased from their 2016 draft by Kevin and Jenny Moses for $105,000.

Featured in a Breednet 'Juvenile Trial Watch' story on November 29, the Gary Portelli trained Falconic (images Steve Hart) was third on debut to Magic Millions sale-topper Chauffeur at Rosehill on December 10.

FalconicWith fitness and race experience on his side, Falconic was favourite for the juvenile sprint over 1200 metres and under a cool ride from Koby Jennings got the job done to win by more than a length.

"He still doesn't really know how to finish it off," said Gary Portelli.

"For a high pressure race like he's going to find at the Gold Coast we might look at blinkers, but he's honest and he's in the race."

Kevin and Jenny Moses have already enjoyed success with the progeny of Nicconi, having raced Niccolance, who was fourth in the 2016 Magic Millions 2YO Classic and has won over $250,000 in prizemoney.

Given the success of Niccolance, it's no wonder they were drawn to Falconic, who is the third winner from Queen of the Falls, with all of her winners sired by Nicconi.

Widden stud's quiet achiever Nicconi has eight entries for the Magic Millions and three for Inglis Classic.

A blue-blooded daughter of General Nediym, Queen of the Falls is a half-sister to Group II winner and Golden Slipper place-getter Elite Falls from Group III winner Niagara Falls.

Turangga Farm decided to give Queen of the Falls a change of pace in 2014 and sent her to Northern Meteor's champion son Zoustar with the resulting colt (pictured below)   to be offered as Lot 347 at the 2017 Magic Millions.
