Exciting times ahead for Brisbane based syndicators Adrenaline Thoroughbreds who at Doomben on Saturday cheered home their first stakes winner - the exciting filly Champ Elect.
Doing it tough out wide from a tricky gate in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes, the Chris Munce trained chestnut showed great heart knuckling down over the final stages to wear down the leaders.
It was win number two from two starts for the attractive filly who is now Magic Millions bound, much to the excitement of her large and enthusiastic group of owners.
Ticking every box in their determined search to find their clients the best possible value at the yearling sales, Adrenaline's Paul Bita and Michael Vincent conduct exhaustive research into pedigree and conformation.
Kristen Manning is proud to be associated with Adrenaline, providing pedigree advice as the yearling sale catalogue is studied in-depth.
"We work with Kristen to ensure that all Adrenaline thoroughbreds have pedigree patterns that will increase their chances of success," Michael Vincent said.
"Her highly detailed analysis provides rich insight into the genetic potential of horses for sale and is used to validate our decisions on bloodstock purchases."
A stand-out on both type and pedigree at this year's Magic Millions - secured for $95,000 - Champ Elect was described in Manning's pre-sale analysis as being the result of a mating which "ticks several boxes."
" Choisir has performed very well with both Encosta de Lago and Zabeel... 12 winners from 17 runners out of Encosta mares (three stakes winners including spring Gr.1 winner Japonisme... a strike rate of over 70% compared to Choisir's overall ratio of 63%)... 14 winners from 18 runners out of Zabeel mares including three stakes winners; 77% strike rate is most impressive!"
"The Danehill line generally loves further Northern Dancer (four crosses here) as well as Zabeel/Sir Tristram and Success Express. This filly is a descendant of the wonderful mare Pocahontas and there is a great deal of Gondolette family influence in the background."
Manning conducts comprehensive catalogue research, checking line-breeding patterns whilst checking statistics to come to conclusions regarding what works - and, just as importantly - what doesn't.
"I firmly believe that pedigree analysis is a vital tool when purchasing yearlings," she said. "There is much more to the pedigree page than what you see in the catalogue but the research is time-consuming... and of course racing people are busy!"
"It makes sense to treat the pedigree as a form guide. You cannot guarantee a winner with study but you can put the odds a lot more in your favour. And when you are spending tens of thousands of dollars and more it makes sense to have the research done first."
