Here Come the Toffs!

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 22

It's been a big week for resident Rosemont stallion Toorak Toff with another impressive winner at Sale today for Robbie Griffiths and a big team of owners.

In the past eight days, Toorak Toff has had four city runners across the country for two winners and two seconds including the impressive Toorak Cowboy at Sandown on Wednesday for Pat Carey. Rosemont raced Rock'n'rollrock ran a pleasing second at the same meeting and their filly Toorak Rose in the Clinton McDonald yard ran an impressive runner-up race at Flemington last Saturday.

Toorak ToffToday's winner Toorak Miss was bred by long-time Griffiths stable client Denis Malcolm who part owns the filly with a big bunch of owners who look to have good times ahead with the filly.

"It's very satisfying to see the Toffs really hitting their straps before Christmas as 3yos. Anyone that bought one or bred one in the first crop all felt they were horses that would make 3yos rather than jump and run 2yos," said Anthony Mithen of Rosemont.

"It's tremendous that owners and trainers are getting horses that look like they will train on, get a bit of a trip and have the right attitudes to make racehorses."

Mithen said there are a number of classy unraced types in Rosemont's racing system as well as others that trainers are holding high hopes for into the Autumn.

"We had a nice horse with Donna Logan in NZ run a lovely 4th in a Stakes race two weeks ago over 2100m and I know Danny O'Brien and the Champion Thoroughbreds team are very excited about Toffee Nose this Autumn after running 4th in the G2 Wakeful Stakes in November."

"Look out for Pop as well with Clint McDonald. She ran 5thin the G1 2yo Sires in Sydney earlier this year and is in for a big prep. We pre-trained her and she has got bigger and stronger this time in," Mithen added.

Toorak Toff may be a stallion that got under the guard of the sales companies with just one offering at the Magic Millions in January and just 4 entered for Inglis Melbourne Premier. The son of Show A Heart had 90 current 2yos to come on for him and 61 yearlings.
