Emirates Park Bred Fastnet SW in Japan

Media Release - Wednesday December 14

The Emirates Park consignment heading to the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale (Book One) received a significant boost last weekend when Melagrana scored a maiden stakes race victory in Japan.

Melagrana - Emirates Park TwittterOne of 16 starters to contest the Listed Lapis Lazuli Stakes over 1200m at Nakayama, the Fastnet Rock filly proceeded to record her sixth career success from 14 starts, claiming the event by a long neck in the colours of Kazumi Yoshida.

Melagrana has now won three of her past four starts, all over 1200 metres, and posting slashing times — 1m07.90s, 1m08.70s and 1m08.40s — on each occasion.

Though a daughter of Coolmore's flagship stallion Fastnet Rock, Melagrana is very much flying the flag for Emirates Park in Japan.

Consigned by the stud for the 2014 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, she was purchased by Kazumi Yoshida for $200,000.

Melagrana as a yearlingMelagrana hails from a family developed by His Excellency Nasser Lootah over the past two decades. The plethora of stakes winners in the first three removes include the likes of Mutawaajid and Fatoon, both raced by the stud's principal and his family, as well as Fat Al and Adeewin — major Group winners for outside clients.

Emirates Park is set to offer a half-brother to Melagrana at the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale next February.

A bay colt by red hot sire  I Am Invincible, the youngster will be offered as Lot 508 and is the eighth foal of Ghaliah, a Sydney winning daughter of the stud's much heralded foundation stallion Secret Savings (USA), a growing broodmare sire influence in the Australian Stud Book.
