Gone
too soon, Widden Stud's former stalwart Stratum has been red hot over the start
to summer with Group I winners Takedown and Stratum Star as well as a filly
that promises to add to his stakes tally sooner rather than later.
A part-owner of superstar mare Winx, Richard Treweeke is the owner/breeder of
progressive Stratum filly Zumbelina, who reeled off her fourth successive
metropolitan win when scoring at Rosehill last Saturday.
Prepared by Chris Waller, Zumbelina (pictured Steve Hart) was second to highly rated colt Spirit and
Fire when making her debut back in August and has not been defeated since.
Zumbelina has been reaping the rewards for her efforts in BOBS Bonuses racking
up over $260,000 from her current winning spree, but will tackle Black Type
races next year.
"If there's not a race for her in two weeks' time we'll give her a short
break and bring her back for races like the James Carr and PJ Bell – that's
been the plan and it hasn't changed," said Chris Waller.
"Those races are not until the back-end of the carnival so there's still a
bit of time to keep her going and she's in great condition."
Zumbelina is the first winner for minor winning Noverre (USA) mare Ruth's
Secret, who was also raced by Mr Treweeke in partnership with another of the
Winx owners in Peter Tighe and his wife.
From the Leica Show branch of the famed 'Leica' family featuring Group I
winners Pharaoh, Leica Guv and Light Fantastic, Ruth's Secret has a yearling
filly by Hinchinbrook and was covered again by Stratum last year.
Stratum has a stunning draft of 10
yearlings for Magic Millions and nine
for Inglis Classic.
