Testa Rossa Mare Strikes Again

Mark Smith - Saturday December 10

Rejuvenated 6yo mare Cavaloce continued her fine run of form since joining the stable of Will Clarken, staging a last to first performance in Saturday's $100,000 Listed City Of Marion Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Given time to find her feet by Todd Pannell, Cavaloce saw the backsides of all 11 opponents on the home turn. Switched to the centre of the track, the daughter of Testa Rossa picked them off one by one down the stretch to defeat Lope De Capio (Lope de Vega) by a long-head with Mubakkir (Commands) one and three-quarter length back in third.

Two runs back on October 15, Cavaloce claimed the Listed Durbridge Stakes on the same track before finishing sixth in the Group III Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes at Flemington at her most recent start.

Her overall record stands at 8 wins, 3 seconds and 4 thirds from 25 starts with earnings of $282,525.

Originally trained by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, the 6yo daughter of Testa Rossa was a $56,000 purchase out of the Supreme Thoroughbreds draft at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale in 2011.

Her dam Refit (Encosta de Lago), who failed to impress in two starts, is a half-sister to Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner Reactive (Geiger Counter) and the Listed winner Fleischer (Danehill), the dam of stakes winners Coulis and Roubechon.

Refit has a 2yo filly by Foxwedge and foaled a Smart Missile colt on September 21 after missing to the same stallion in 2014.

Cavaloce is one of 58 stakes winner for Vinery Stud's evergreen Testa Rossa (photo Mark Smith) who is currently serving his 16th book of mares at Vinery Stud for a fee of $16,500.
