First Stakes Win for Redoute's Choice's Ravi

Mark Smith - Saturday December 10

An important first stakes win for the royally-bred mare Ravi who turned Saturday's $100,000 Listed Canadian Club Just Now Handicap (1300m) at Eagle Farm into a procession.

The 4yo daughter of Redoute's Choice started her season with a second to Heaven's Above in the Group III Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill before performing credibly in a pair of stakes races over the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Given a cosy run back in sixth on the rail by Kerrin McEvoy, Ravi was switched to the centre of the track to mount a challenge in the straight and put the bed to race in a matter of strides.

The Kia Ora Stud homebred cleared away to defeat Unequivocal (Not A Single Doubt) by three and a quarter lengths with  Sheiswhatsheis (Bernardini) a length and a quarter back in third.

"She deserved that. She's had some good runs behind her this preparation. She's always shown good ability, certainly stakes level," co-trainer Peter Snowden said

"I was a bit disappointed last start at Flemington, she just ran a bit below par. Her Caulfield run was excellent.

"I had intended to spell her but the week I had her at home she absolutely bloomed.

"She's a Redoute's Choice filly and when you get a good one they normally go on with it."

Consigned by Kia-Ora Stud to the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling sale, Ravi (pictured as a yearling ) failed to make her $200,000 reserve.

With her first stakes win in the bag, Ravi advances her overall record to 5 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 11 starts with earnings of $283,520.

A sister to the Listed Newbury Carnarvon Stakes winner and multiple Group II placed Elzaam, Ravi is the seventh foal of the winning Kingmambo mare Mambo In Freeport (USA) a half-sister to Grade 1 Debutante Stakes winner Point Ashly (Point Given) and Grade II winner Raw Gold ( Rahy) the dam of multiple Listed winner Kadira (Kafwain).

Mambo In Freeport (USA) has a 2yo filly by All Too Hard but has not had a mare return submitted for the last two seasons.

Ravi becomes the 137th stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud's Redoute's Choice who has 13 yearlings heading to the Magic Millions in January. See them here.
