Aussie Winners in South Africa

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 7
A sibling to two Australian stakes-winners, Australian bred Fastnet Rock colt Furiosa broke the ice for his first win at Turffontein in South Africa on Tuesday.

The Sean Tarry trained colt was second at her first two starts before taking this 1400 metre maiden by more than a length.

Furiosa as a yearlingA $200,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase for Hassen Adams from the Newgate Farm draft, Furiosa was bred by Raffles Dancers and is a full brother to stakes-winner Casquets and half-sister to stakes-winner Ballet Suite being the sixth winner from Suitely.

Making it a winning double for Australian thoroughbreds was the Mike de Kock trained three year-old New Approach (IRE) filly Al Hawraa, who won her third race from seven starts when scoring by three-quarters of a length over 1400 metres.

A homebred for Shadwell, foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Al Hawraa is the first foal of minor winning Redoute's Choice mare Ijaaza, who was bought by Shadwell for $500,000 at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Reavill Farm.

Ijaaza comes with a big pedigree being a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I winners Anamato and Dealer Principal from the family of champion galloper Grand Armee.
