Takedown right at home in Hong Kong

Tom Walter - Tuesday December 6

Gary Moore's hulking gelding Takedown has reportedly handled the trip to Hong Kong like a "proper veteran."

The four-year-old son of Stratum raced in three different states across Australia between October and November but has taken no ill effects from his first journey abroad, according to Moore's son and assistant trainer David.

"We really couldn't be happier and we've got a horse who is on the up," Moore told the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

"It's unbelievable, he's only four but he's like a proper veteran and has travelled to Hong Kong really well.

"Some horses lose a lot of weight in travelling but not him, and it helps that he loves eating. We just hope he gets a good gate later in the week."

Takedown cantered around Sha Tin's all-weather track on Monday morning under regular work rider Petra Kankova and is an $8.50 chance for the Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) with online bookmaker Sportsbet.

The gelding has been in Hong Kong since the beginning of the month while compatriot and $16 hope Rebel Dane arrived in the Asian racing hub on Sunday night, with trainer Gary Portelli opting to complete all the seven-year-old's fast work back home in Australia.

The Francis Lui-trained Lucky Bubbles was seen galloping over 800 metres on the turf course and is the $3.50 top pick.
