Shadai
Stallion Station in Japan have released their fees for 2017 with a vast roster
headed by champion sire Deep Impact, who has had six foals born here in
Australia this year at Arrowfield Stud.
The superstar son of Sunday Silence will stand at a fee of 30 million yen,
which converts to $357,482 Australian dollars and his book is already reported
as full.
Turning 15 next year, Deep Impact is the sire of 89 stakes-winners worldwide
and enjoys an impressive 10% stakes-winners to runners.
His tally of stakes-winners features 27 Group I winners including Real Impact
(Jpn), who won the Group I ATC George Ryder Stakes in 2015 and has been
covering his first book of Australian mares at Arrowfield Stud this spring.
The first son of Deep Impact to stand in Australia, his fee is $19,250.
Arrowfield Stud enjoyed much commercial success in sending mares from Australia
to Japan to be covered by Deep Impact's sire Sunday Silence between 1998 and
2001.
The exercise produced notable sale-ring success with an Inglis Easter sales
topper in 2003, when a colt from Phantom Creek GB) fetched $1.7 million, while
four other colts also sold for $1million or more during the period.
Among those colts was Group II winner Keep the Faith, who later retired to stud
and has left dual Group I winner Trust in a Gust.
Magic Millions also got in on the act with a filly from Joie Denise offered at
their sale in 2001 to dissolve the partnership between Arrowfield Stud and John
Singleton's Strawberry Hill, who had bred the filly.
She topped the sale at $1million when bought by back by Gai Waterhouse for Singleton
and racing as Sunday Joy went on to win the Group I AJC Australian Oaks.
Of course at stud, she has achieved lasting fame as the dam of champion mare
More Joyous.
Another of the colts, Any Given Sunday (from Tamari (USA), was not saleable and
never raced, but covered a small book of 20 mares in 2003 before a premature
death. His one and only small crop of 16 foals included the dual Group I winner
Riva San.
Given the overwhelming success of the Sunday Silence experiment, it's no surprise Arrowfield
are rolling the dice again with Deep Impact.
The six mares that were sent to him last year have all produced foals this
spring according to the Australian Studbook.
