Any
young stallion looking to make a name for himself needs one good horse and for
Aquis Farm's Benfica it is progressive filly Benfica Princess, who landed her
third consecutive victory when saluting at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Jumping from the outside in a field of 13, the Kelly Doughty trained filly came
with her customary late rush to score a short half head win over older rivals
in the 1500 metre Class Three event.
With three wins from 11 starts and prizemoney just shy of $60,000, Benfica
Princess has a bright future and the stable are looking to races such as the
Group I BRC Queensland Oaks next year for the talented filly.
Benfica Princess is the third winner for Made of Gold (USA) mare Made of
Dreams, who traces in tail female line to champion mare Emancipation.
She is one of five winners from less than 20 runners for Benfica, whose oldest
progeny are just three year-olds.
By champion sire Lonhro from the family of champion filly Riverina Charm, a
four-time Group I winner up to 2000 metres, Benfica has classic elements in his
pedigree which would make for no surprise to see him sire some quality middle
distance horses as his stock mature.
A Group I winner of the BRC TJ Smith Stakes over 1600 metres at two, Benfica
stands at a fee of $4,400.
