Swettenham Delighted with Toronado Sale-Topper

Media Release - Friday November 25

Swettenham Stud shuttler Toronado (Ire) topped Day 2 of the Tattersalls Foal Sale on Thursday with a first-crop colt that made 190,000 guineas (AUD 334,130).

The March 1 foal was purchased by Jim McCartan who was acting for Michael Carty of Kilmoney Cottage Stud. "We thought he was an exceptional foal and we waited for him," said McCartan. "We went to see him again in the back ring and it confirmed our impression.

"Toronado was a very good horse and this one's been bought for resale, so fingers crossed!"

The session-topper is from Raskutani (Dansili) and was bred by Wellsummers Stud. The mare has foaled three winners from as many runners led by Agent Murphy (G3 Newbury Geoffrey Freer Stakes).

Later in proceedings, a Kodiac colt joined him on the leader-board when targeted by Ballydogen Stud for 190,000 guineas.

Another Toronado foal to make good money on Day 2 was the colt from Crown (Royal Applause) that sold for 145,000 guineas (AUD 255,830). A half-brother to this year's classy juvenile Global Applause (G3 Sandown National Stakes), he was purchased by German pin-hooker Ronald Rauscher.

Toronado (High Chaparral) has 41 lots catalogued for the Tattersalls Foal Sale which runs over four days. It's the biggest representation of any first-season sire at Newmarket.

His final-session filly from Key Light (Acclamation) will be one of the highlights on Saturday. Catalogued as Lot 1242, she is a half-sister to G2 Flying Childers Stakes winner Beacon (Paco Boy).

Toronado stands at a fee of $22,000 and covered 175 mares in Victoria last spring.
