First Stakes Winner for Rothesay

Mark Smith - Saturday November 19

A milestone for Glenlogan Park Stud's Rothesay who celebrated his first stakes winner when the Desleigh Forster-trained Too Good To Refuse powered home from last to win Saturday's Listed Keith Noud Quality (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Jim Byrne, Too Good To Refuse came clear in the final stages to defeat Sony legend (Hard Spun) by one and a quarter lengths with Most Important (I Am Invincible) half a length back in third.

Winner of the Toowoomba Guineas and was second to Prompt Return in the Gunsynd Classic last winter, Too Good To Refuse rounded out last season with unplaced efforts in the Group III Fred Best Classic and Group II Queensland Guineas.

"The option was there to take him to Melbourne for the spring but in the end I decided to keep him here for our summer races," Forster told AAP.

"I have decided to keep him to the sprint races and his next starts will be in the George Moore Stakes (1200m) and the Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m)."

"I then have the choice of trying to qualify him for the Magic Millions in a wildcard race or starting him in the Bernborough Stakes at 1600 metres."

"I think he will make a good Stradbroke Handicap horse but let's just worry about the summer first."

Passed in short of his $50,000 reserve at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale, Too Good To Refuse is out of the winning Dodge mare Alyssa Jean a half-sister to Hong Kong Stakes winner Royal Delight and South African stakes winner Conquered Dream who are both by Commands.

This is New Zealand's famous 'Heights' family featuring Battle Heights, Mapperley Heights and Viewed.

The victory of Too Good To Refuse will be welcomed by Raheen Stud who will offer a Golden Archer half-brother at the Magic Millions in January.

Alyssa Jean foaled a full brother to Too Good To Refuse on September 23.

The Group II Queensland Guineas winner Rothesay (Fastnet Rock) stands at Glenlogan Park at a fee of $11,000.
