Written Tycoon's Despatch Best In Clockwise Classic

Mark Smith - Saturday November 19

The second most expensive yearling sold at the Adelaide Magic Millions in 2016, Written Tycoon colt Dispatch, went some way to recouping his purchase price at his career debut when holding off stablemate Nistaan in Saturday's $200,000 Magic Millions 2YO Clockwise Classic (1000m) at Ballarat.

Given a positive ride by Luke Nolen, the Tony McEvoy-trained Dispatch settled outside of the pacesetting Majestueux before taking control shortly after straightening.

He was all out holding the finish of Nicconi colt  Nistaan by a short-head with favourite American Genius (All American) two lengths back in third.

"Tony has bought unbelievably well at the sales and today was bloody exciting," McEvoy's stable foreman Michael Shepherdson told racing.com.

"Despatch jumped a little bit cleaner in his jumpout so he was always going to settle closer in the run.

" Nistaan we've got plenty of time for and he's going to develop into a nice horse in time. In another few strides he gets the money."

Both the winner and runner-up will be aimed at the $2 million Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 14.

A two-time veteran of the sales ring, Dispatch was consigned by Woodside Park to the 2015 Magic Millions National Weanling sale where he was knocked down to Paul and Amanda Thompson for $40,000.

It proved to be a fine investment as he was in the Baramul draft at the Adelaide sale some eight months later where he made $195,000 to the bid of McEvoy Mitchell Racing.

Despatch is the fourth foal of the 3-time winning Fasliyev mare Zoccoletta.

One of five winners out of the Group III AJC Fernhill Stakes winner Vita (Thunder Gulch), Zoccoletta, died in March last year.

Despatch is her final foal.
