With spring stakes racing now complete the leading Australian Sires List can often be somewhat skewed by the huge prizemoney on the majors, but a reliable guide as to just which stallions are firing comes when looking at their success by stakes-winners.

Leading Sires of Australian SW's (three or more, source Arion)



With eight stakes-winners each, Snitzel (Arrowfield) and Exceed and Excel (Darley) lead the way, with Lonhro (Darley) and Street Cry (IRE) (Darley)nipping at their heels on six stakes-winners each.

So three of the top four sires by stakes-winners come out of the all powerful Darley barn, albeit Street Cry sadly no longer with us.
